Dad is doing it again, Drug addiction!

Well let me explain my dad has been on methadone to stop his heroin addiction so far it looks like it was helping then Sunday morning my mom told me and my siblings he was shooting up and she said give him space and I’m like wow he’s staying at home in his bedroom doesn’t want to work he just wants to stay in the house and only go out for smack. He seems depressed and reclusive all up in himself I know I cant do much but dad with no work no money for the house equals no life for us. This is making me confused and super angry should he get some kind of mental help or what?

Ouch, any drug addiction can be hard to kick. Especially heroin, It’s very addicting and can be very difficult for the user as well as those around them as you have likely noticed first hand.

He was on the right track with the methadone, and trying to quite. Regretfully he seems to have been craving heroin so much than he was willing to toss all the progress he had made away and stat all over again.

Be thankful your mother is open with you; most parents would never tell their children this. It’s a good thing that she is letting you know. Because you can help, oddly enough people who love them tend to be able to shake an addicted if they keep pushing them to stop their drug use.

SO what that means is make sure that you voice your disappointment that he feel back into his old habits and that you wish he’d stop it. Make sure you let him know how much he means to you and that you worried about himself as well as his health.

Sadly not much more you can do besides that, he is a grown man and you can’t force him into drug rehab. Though that doesn’t mean you can’t try and convince him to enter it and do a drug intervention. Even than he will likely just be put on a regiment of methadone again so he will need to be committed to following through with it.
